Do you practice Organic Style Farming?

Yes, we do! All our meat and poultry supplied to customers are also guaranteed free range as we value animal welfare and believe wholeheartedly that our animals should live happy outdoor lives. We aim to farm in an environmentally responsible way and are proud to be part of the todays group of farmers who are Eco-minded, nature respecting and sustainability concerned. We re determined to exclude chemicals and pollutants from our birds, animals and the environment. We are ethical farmers!

Are your Birds Free Range?

Yes, all our birds are free range and they are free to forage for food from the surrouding farm grassland. The birds are allowed and encouraged to live more naturally in a secure farm enviroment with access to grass, land, water, fresh air and much more.

Do you mass produce animals?

No, we do not! We raise our flock in batches of between 150-300 at any one time, per bird type. For us it is about quality, not quantity.

How long do you raise your chickens for?

At Canaan Life Farms, all our chickens are raised, slow-grown for a minimum of 81 days which is more than double the length of commercial birds in the supermarket which are mass produced and raised for just 36-42 days. Our birds get to enjoy full and quality life and are humanely handled. They are culled at maturity, dry plucked and hung for an additional 7 days before being dispatched to customers. This ensure quality and good tasting birds at your table.

Do you buy in from other Organic Farmers?

Occasionally we will bring in poultry or meat from our organic and free range practicing partners in Wales when we have larger orders to fill which exceeds our own capacity. Buyers are notified & advised well in advance. The quality of the birds, lamb or goats are of the same very high Canaan Life Farm standard. The Canaan Life Farms guarantee remains the same.

Are your birds all free ranging?

Yes, they are! All our birds, mainly chicken, turkey, Ducks and Guinea Fowls are free ranging. They forage freely in open grassland though their diet is supplemented with specially formualted feed packed with nutrients and essentials for maximum health, thus resulting in good quality meat and taste.

Do you supply smoked lambs & Goats?

Yes, we do! Smoked meat is one of our signature products range. The skin of the lamb or goats are not removed but carefully smoked with a blow torch to give the meat that smokey-burnt taste which makes them so desirable & delicious, and a delight of ethnic consumers. Special orders for party booking, religious festival seasons and Christmas are always welcomed. Advanced booking is advised & peferred.

Do you feed your chickens corn?

Our chickens are fed a maize rich additive-free cereal supplement from our trusted feed mill. This is an extra treat for our chickens which is perfect for slower growing birds. The mixed corn feed includes home grown wheat, barley and oats with additional black sunflower seeds and maize.

Do you sell at Markets?

Because our animals are not reared on a large scale and due to a higher pre-booked orders, we do not have enough left over to take to the markets. We currently supply both the residential and limited commercial outlets, especially at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons or at special occasions.

Where are you based?
We are based in East Lothian, in Scotland. Our administrative office and order processing center is at Portobello, near Edinburgh, Scotland.
